How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes at Home

Don't know how to clean your makeup brushes at home? Well you're in luck! I experimented with a few ways to clean my brushes, and settled on this method. I would recommend doing this monthly, but really you can do this as often as you like. I cleaned all of these brushes and it took me less than 15 minutes.

What you'll need:
  1. A bowl - I used an old butter container so that I could throw it away after (my brushes were DIRTY)
  2. Warm water - If your brushes are really dirty then you will need to rinse out the water after cleaning each brush so that you aren't transferring dirt and bacteria from one brush to the next
  3. An old washcloth or several paper towels - I liked the sturdiness of a washcloth,  but either work
  4. Gentle shampoo - I found that baby shampoo works best. If you don't have gentle shampoo try a gentle dish soap
What you'll do:
  1. Fill your bowl with warm water. Submerge the brush(clean one brush at a time) just below the metal encasing (the encasing contains glue to hold the brushes in place so you don't want to get it wet)
  2. Place a small amount of baby shampoo in your hand and swirl the brush around
  3. Dip back in the water and gently sweep it back and forth
  4. Gently squeeze out excess water
  5. Sweep the brushes back and forth on the washcloth or paper towel
  6. Lay on clean washcloth or paper towel to dry
  7. You might have to repeat these steps 1-6 several times if your brushes are really dirty
Let me know once you have tried this method and if you have any tips to add.

Dirty brushes are just that, dirty! And cleaning them is simple and so worth it.
